Bullis Creek Ranch "Generations of Predictability 9" Spring Production Sale
April 6, 2009- Burwell Livestock Market- Burwell, NE- Auctioneer Mike Baxter
A severe winter storm hit the Midwest on Saturday the 4 th causing the postponement of the female sale from Sunday the 5 th to Monday the 6 th following the scheduled bull sale. Monday dawned with a clear sky and fair weather. A storm shortened crowd was on hand to bid on a stout set of bulls followed by the dispersion of the fall calving cowherd along with a select group of fancy open heifers and a group of May calving registered Red Angus cows. The demand was good and bidding active on the bulls and the females sold with a high number selling over the internet and on order due to reduced travel brought on by the recent blizzard.

The bulls, replacement females, and semen on our herd sires represent 30 years of genetic development. The environment is as demanding on our cattle as is that of our customers.
We offer 50 head of bulls designed for the commercial rancher, at auction on the 1st Friday in April at the Burwell Livestock Market, Burwell NE. The offering will include 25 senior bulls born in the fall, and 25 stout spring yearlings. Represented in the sale will be purebred and percentage Limousin and Red Angus. Also available will be a limited number of high quality Limousin X Red Angus F1 and F2 bulls.
A word about how we handle our bulls. We do not believe in over feeding our bulls just to have them look good on paper. We like to see the bulls gaining 3 lbs. a day on a ration designed to grow them out not fatten them up! We encourage buyers to compare gain ratios and yearling weight epds to more accurately gage genetic potential. Follow up with past buyers reaffirms our philosophy on growing bulls out. As most ranchers have reported that their bulls held their flesh very well through out the breeding season. Our senior bulls are summered on grass. The fall born calves are weaned in March and turned back out on grass. This doesnt make for big yearling weights like if you had fed them all summer, but it does make for a bull that is less likely to a have problems such as over conditioning, poor feet and legs from standing around a feed lot most of his life. Instead he will spend most of his time here on grass, like the environment that he will go into when he is sold for breeding. Our bulls are fed by Bob and Kip Richardson and have been for the last 7 years and they do a great job! Bob is just as concerned about the soundness of our bulls as we are so it has worked very well. |
