Dick and Karen Hammel are the owners and operators of Hammel Red Angus. We have been in the purebred business for over 30 years and raising top quality Red Angus since 1982.

Dick and Karen have 3 kids.   Jeff, the oldest, lives in Boise Idaho and is employed as an environmental consultant.   He is engaged to Casey Moore and will wed in October.   Casey has two daughters and we welcome them all to our family.   Jenny is married to LeRoy Schallenberger   and they have two boys.   Darin (5) and Travis (3) are the light of our eyes.   They are expecting a brother or sister next August.   Grandma and Grandpa are delighted.   LeRoy and Jenny have their own ranch in our area.   We help each other out during the busy times.   Jake, our youngest, is a lineman and recently became engaged to Chioko Nakasone.   No date is set yet.   Dick and Karen are thrilled that they have come back to Ekalaka. Jake landed a job at our local utility as a lineman and Chioko is applying for teaching/coaching jobs at the local schools.

This year we are offering a great selection of bulls for sale by private treaty.    Many have low birth weights that will work well on heifers.   Our bulls are bred and fed right to ensure high fertility and soundness.   We feed a high roughage diet with very little grain.   Our bulls are not pampered and you can see them in their everyday clothes (no clipping). They are bred for natural thickness and volume, to some of the top genetics in the Red Angus breed.   At Hammel Red Angus, unlike most purebred breeders, we only offer from the top half of the bull calves.   We castrate the other half at weaning time.

This year we are also offering some older bulls for sale.   We have a select group of 2 yr old bulls we kept for our own use on heifers.   They will sire more calves and can service bigger cows. We also have a few bulls out of our fall calving cows for sale.

Our cowherd is run like any commercial herd in big pastures.   Our cows are very easy fleshing. Fertile, productive and gentle.

We will feed the bulls, semen check them and delivery arrangements are available.   We offer volume discounts and special discounts on bulls picked up at the ranch on day of sale.
