Dick and Karen Hammel are the owners and operators of Hammel Red Angus. We have been in the purebred business for over 30 years and raising top quality Red Angus since 1982.

Dick and Karen have 3 kids.   Jeff, the oldest, a chemical engineer, is married to Casey and they have two daughters Kaleigh and Sage.   They live in Boise Idaho.  Jenny is married to LeRoy Schallenberger and they have three children.   Darin (6), Travis (4) and Lily (7 months) are the light of our eyes.   Grandma and Grandpa love our regular visits from them.   LeRoy and Jenny have their own ranch in our area.   We help each other out during the busy times.   Jake, our youngest, is a lineman recently married Chioko Nakasone.   Dick and Karen are thrilled that they have come back to Ekalaka. Jake landed a job at our local utility as a lineman and Chioko is taking college classes online and substitute teaching and coaching at the local high school.  

This year we are offering a great selection of bulls for sale by private treaty.    Many have low birth weights that will work well on heifers.   Our bulls are bred and fed right to ensure high fertility and soundness.   We feed a high roughage diet with very little grain.   Our bulls are not pampered and you can see them in their everyday clothes (no clipping). They are bred for natural thickness and volume, to some of the top genetics in the Red Angus breed.   At Hammel Red Angus, we are only offerering bulls from the top 10% of the bull calves.   We castrate the rest at weaning time. The yearlings and 8W are 100% Red Angus but will be sold without registration papers.  

This year we are also offering some older bulls for sale.   We have a select group of 2 yr old bulls we kept for sale this spring.   They will sire more calves and can service bigger cows.

Our cowherd is run like any commercial herd in big pastures.   Our cows are very easy fleshing. Fertile, productive and gentle.

We will feed the bulls, semen check them and delivery arrangements are available.
