The National Campaign to Close the Newspaper Loophole asks newspapers to restrict firearms advertisements to licensed firearms dealers only, and to not take classified ads for guns from unlicensed sellers. To date, at least 51 newspapers across the country with a combined circulation of 7.6 million have changed their firearms advertising policy as a direct result of the campaign. IPGV initiated the Campaign to Close the Newspaper Loophole in November 2001 and serves as the coordinator for the campaign. The goal of the campaign is to contact daily newspapers in all 50 states.
