Campaign to Close the Newspaper Loophole

A national project of IPGV

The National Campaign to Close the Newspaper Loophole asks newspapers to restrict firearms advertisements to licensed firearms dealers only, and to not take classified ads for guns from unlicensed sellers. To date, at least 51 newspapers across the country with a combined circulation of 7.6 million have changed their firearms advertising policy as a direct result of the campaign. Click here for additional information about the campaign.

IPGV initiated the Campaign to Close the Newspaper Loophole in November 2001 and serves as the coordinator for the campaign. The goal of the campaign is to contact daily newspapers in all 50 states.

IPGV 2005 Legislative Agenda

Gun Violence is a serious problem in the United States. In the last decade more than 300,000 Americans have died from gun shot wounds, including 1,980 Iowans. Sadly, lawmakers have neglected their duty to protect Americans from the high levels of gun violence in out society. Iowans for the Prevention of Gun Violence supports public plicies to reduce gun death and injury in Iowa and the nation. We advocate for both legislative and non-legislative initatives. This document provides our legislative agenda for the 81st Iowa General Assembly that convened in January 2005.
