KJRA Field Day
On July 23, 2011, the Kansas Red Angus Association met for our annual Field Day at the Wildcat Creek Ranch near Peabody, Kansas. The Juniors participated in Barnyard Olympics, Quiz Bowl, Livestock Judging, Photo Contest, lunch, a demonstration of uterine palpation by Dr. Toewes, and lots of fun and fellowship. Past JRA Board member, Cassie Kniebel, addressed the field day attendees with information about JRA programs and opportunities.
The Quiz Bowl champion team consisted of Wyndom Giefer, representing the Junior Division, Kale Watchous for the Intermediates, Katie Hommertzheim in the Senior Division, and adult team member Amy Parsons.
Barnyard Olympics winners in the Junior Division were: first Josie Parsons, second Sybil Giefer, and third Audrey Brawner. In the Intermediate Division, first was Leah Parsons, second Helen Giefer, and third Maddy Mushrush. The Senior Division honors went to Naomi Parsons, second to Galen Parsons, and third to Nathan Lanier. The roping event seemed to be the great decider in placings, with a definite advantage to those who had tossed a lariat before!
In the Livestock Judging, Sybil Giefer took first in the Junior Division, followed by Audrey Brawner and Wyndom Giefer. Intermediate winners were Laramie Noble, Leah Parsons, and Maddy Mushrush. Senior placings went to Galen Parsons, Jessica Lewis, and Naomi Parsons.
The Photo Contest was won by MacKenzie Moudenhall (Juniors), Leah Parsons (Intermediates), and Nathan Lanier (Seniors).
