Program

Our registered red angus herd began in 1996. Laurence purchased our first three registered red angus heifers from Roy McPhee, McPhee Red Angus in Lodi, CA. Since that time we have been on a red angus "genetic gathering journey". Laurence has studied red angus lines and made purchases from breeders across the U.S., as well as many more from the McPhee’s, to compile a very efficient and productive registered red angus cowherd.

The focus here at Mendoza Red Angus, has always been on maternal production. We cull strict on our cows for fleshing ability, calf performance, udder quality and disposition. At this time, we run our cows solely on the native grasses of the California Sierra Foothills. We do not creep feed the calves, but do supplement with minerals to enhance the native pastures. Our cows are expected to breed back easily, within a timely manner and calve unassisted every spring.

Our goal has been to have a small but elite cowherd full of high maternal proven lines from top breeders across the U.S. We utilize artificial insemenation as well as embryo transfer to gain these top performing, proven red angus genetics within our herd and keep our cows progressing toward the future. We do not chase fads, but do recognize the importance of progression to offer the most we can to our commercial customers. Our herd bulls have been chosen for the same traits that we look for in a.i. sires and donor dams.

The 2004 calf crop includes proven sires such as Glacier Chateau 744, Buf Crk Cherokee Canyon 4912, Canyon 824-1658, Lman Robinhood 1174B, Cfld Reballas Robinhood 538, BJR Jr 107, Lman GoldRobber 1909E, Sodak Precision 7408, Glacier Marias 548 and Lman No Equal A508L. Some of the maternal lines in these calves are Forster Copperqueen 7172, Blockanna 502-5185, Glacier Rebalas, Glacier Osce, Larson Princess, Lman King Rob Daughters, Badlands Cedar 922 and Lchman Firefly to name a few. We invite you to contact us to get more information on the exciting calves we have coming up!
