Greetings,

My name is David Spurrell, for the past 7 years, my family and I have worked on a project we call Stockings 4 Soldiers. We put together Christmas stockings for Iowa soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. We have sent over 2500 stockings to members of the Iowa National Guard from all over this great state.

Our 2009 effort will be sending 150 stockings to a unit with the Iowa National Guard and memebers of the 445th TC Co. out of Waterloo, IA from the Army Reserve, serving in Iraq.

For some, this will be their first time away from home, others have been through this before. It can be very discouraging to be away from home at Christmas time. We want to show them that it does not matter what we think of the war itself or whether we should even be in Iraq. What matters is that these brave men and women have answered the call to serve our country and we want them to know that there are people back home that support THEM.

We want to send a little Home town Christmas to our Iowa soldiers serving in Iraq . Each stocking is filled with personal items that are needed, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and shampoo. We also put in some snack items, pens, stress balls, music CDs, and anything else we can find to make Christmas special.

We are asking individuals or families to help by sponsoring a stocking for $15.00. This will help us to purchase items needed to fill each stocking and help with our postage needs. The deadline is November 15, 2009. Contributions may be made on our web site, www.stockings4soldiers.com, or mailed to the address below.

Thank you for taking time to consider Iowa’s soldiers on the frontlines of the War on Terror.

Sincerely,

David Spurrell
